Wagagai Mining (U) Ltd (WGG*) is Uganda’s first fully automated large-scale gold mining enterprise, located in Busia. The Company operates a 5,000-tonne-per-day concentrator, a 350-tonne-per-day cyanidation plant, a fully automated underground mine, and a gold smelting and refining workshop. To meet production development needs, WGG now invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following key technical postions:
Geological Exploration
1. Geophysical & Geochemical Engineer (UAV) (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for operating survey UAVs and geophysica instruments, and completing aerial survey, geophysical exploration and 3D modeling of the mining area
Key Duties: Plan and execute UAV aerial survey missions; capture aerial imagery and produce orthophoto maps (DOM) and digital elevation models (DEM); operate iP instruments, magnetometers and other geophysical equipment, process data using Pix40 and geophysical software; assist in geological mapping and structural interpretation; maintain UAVs and geophysical equipment.
Requirements: Technical secondary school or above in geology/ geophysics/surveying, hold a CAAC UAV pilot licence: 1+ year of aerial survey and geophysical experience, proficient in Pix4D photogrammetry software; able to work in arduous feld conditions.
2 UAV Geological Survey Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for developing and delivering training courses in UAV aerial survey and geophysical data acquisition to build local Ugandan technical capacity.
Key Duties: Prepare UAV operation, aerial survey and data processing training syllabi and materials, conduct classroom teaching and field practical guidance; assess trainee competence; develop standard operating procedures; mentor local operators.
Requirements: Diploma or above; hold a CAAC BVLOS pilot licence; 3+ years of mining serial survey experience, proficient in Pix4D, DOM/DEM products and geological interpretation, strong curriculum development and teaching ability.
3. Geophysicist (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for the design, implementation and interpretation of geophysical surveys to provide a geophysical basis for mineral exploration and mine development.
Key Duties: Design and conduct induced polarisation (IP), magnetic and other geophysical surveys: operate DD-1000 IP instruments, GSM-19T proton precession magnetometers and other equipment: process, invert and interpret geophysical data, prepare geophysical reports and maps; integrate geophysical results with geological mapping and drilling
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in geophysics/geological exploration; 3+ years of geophysical experience in solid mineral exploration: familiar with IP, magnetic methods and instruments. knowledge of Pix4D, MapG|S and similar software; able to work in the field.
4. Senior Geologist (1 Position)
Job Summary. Responsible for technical management of geological exploration projects, resource estimation and mine geological modelling.
Key Duties: Lead geological mapping, drilling programs and core logging build 3D geological models and resource estimates; prepare geological reports; guide the exploration team; provide geological input for mine design and production.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in mineral exploration with Senior Engineer tite; 10+ years of solid mineral exploration experience; proficient in Micromine/Surpac/Data mine and other 3D mine software; technical management and team leadership ability; overseas mine experience preferred.
I. Drilling and Shaft Construction
5. Hydraulic Drill Rig Operator (1 Position)
Job Summary: Operate full-hydraulic surface exploration drill rigs to complete deep core drilling and geological structure investigation.
Key Duties: Operate HYDX-5F and other full-hydraulic drill rigs for deep coring; precisely control driling pressure and rotation parameters; handle stuck pipe, hole deviation and other complications; strictly control hole verticality and core recovery, perform routine equipment maintenance; ensure construction safety and geological data integrity.
Requirements: 2+ years of hands-on full-hydraulic exploration drill rig operation; familiar with medium-deep hole core driling, able to work rotating field shifts at the mine; physically fit, mine safety certificate preferred.
6. Hydraulic Drill Rig Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training local drill rig operators and preparing training materials and standard operating procedures.
Key Duties: Develop and deliver hydraulic drill nig operation training courses; teach hard-rock/soft-rock drilling parameter adjustment, train in troubleshooting and safe operation; develop operating procedures and assessment standards; provide on-site mentoring; establish skills assessment mechanisms.
Requirements: Technical secondary school or above; 5+ years of hydraulic drill rig operation; expert in multiple models of hydraulic and medium-deep hole drill rigs; teaching or mentoring experience; strong communication skills.
7. Raise Borer Operator (1 Position)
Job Summary: Operate raise borers (box hole drills) for the mechanical construction of shafts and ore passes
Key Duties: Install and operate raise borers to complete pilot hole driling and reaming; monitor drilling direction and torque; handle stuck pipe and other downhole faults; change drilling tools; maintain equipment; ensure raise quality and safety
Requirements: Independent raise borer operation experience; familiar with the full pilot hole and reaming process; able to read orientation and geological data; underground mining experience.
8. Raise Borer Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training local raise borer operators.
Key Duties: Prepare raise borer training syllabi and practical programs; train in equipment instalation, pilot hole orientation and reaming; teach emergency response methods; assess trainee skills; develop operating procedures.
Requirements: Technical secondary school or above; 5+ years of raise borer operation; curriculum development and teaching ability; familiar with shaft engineering and underground safety regulations.
9. Underground Exploration Core Drill (Tunnel Drill) Operator (1 Position)
Job Summary: Operate full-hydraulic tunnel drils (underground exploration core drils) in mine audits to carry out in-stope exploration, advance water probing and geological structure detection through horizontal, vertical and inclined drilling, providing direct geological data for mining design and production decisions.
Key Duties: Operate full-hydraulic tunnel drils for horizontal, vertical and inclined driling, strictly control core recovery and drilling quality: advance-probe orebody boundanes, fractured zones and concealed water-bearing structures; manage drilling parameters such as bit pressure and rotation speed, handle stuck pipe, hole collapse and other downhole incidents perform routine drill maintenance and troubleshooting, strictly comply with confined space safety regulations: accurately complete drilling records and core logging
Requirements: Technical secondary school or above, driling engineering/geological exploration preferred, 3+ years of underground drilling expenance in metal mines; familiar with tunnel drill operation and horizontalinclined drilling techniques; knowledge of confined space safety procedures; physically fit and able to work in hot, humid underground conditions, mine special operation certificate preferred.
10. Underground Exploration Core Drill (Tunnel Drill) Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for systematic training and skiils transfer to local tunnel drill operators, preparing training materials and standard operating procedures, and building local Ugandan underground driling expertise
Key Duties: Prepare tunnel drill operation training syllapi, matenals and standard operating procedures (SOPs), systematically train in dril operation, multi-angle drilling techniques, core recovery and downhole incident handling, teach underground driling safety and confined space procedures; conduct classroom theory and underground on-site practical mentoring; establish trainee skills assessment and certification systems: mentor local operators and track their skills development.
Requirements: Diploma or above in driling engineering/geological exploration/mining engineering; 5+ years of tunnel drill operation and management; teaching or mentoring ability with capacity to develop training materials independently, familiar with underground driling safety regulations and mine safety management, mine special operation certificate and training qualification preferred; strong communication skills; able to work overseas and underground.
11. Drill Jumbo Operator (1 Position)
Job Summary: Operate single-boom/twin-boom underground dill jumbos to complete development blast-hole drilling.
Key Duties: Position the jumbo; collar and drill holes per the blast patter; change rods and bits; adjust drilling parameters according to rock conditions; troubleshoot common fauits; perform daily equipment inspection and maintenance; ensure drilling accuracy.
Requirements: 2+ years of underground drill jumbo operation; experience with single/twin-boom development and long-hole jumbos; able to read blast patterns; physically fit and able to work underground.
12. Drill Jumbo Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training local drill jumbo operators and standardising skills.
Key Duties: Prepare drill jumbo training programs, teach blast-hole layout and parameter adjustment for different rock types; correct unsafe operating practices; assess and certify local operators, write training materials and operating procedures.
Requirements: Technical secondary school or above; 5+ years of drill jumbo operation 2+ years of teaching or training experience; familiar with single/twin-boom and long-hole jumbos; able to resolve hole deviation, hole collapse, overbreak and other issues
13. Spindle-Type Core Drill Operator (1 Position)
Job Summary: Operate spindle-type diamond core drils to complete surface mineral exploration drilling
Key Duties: Install and operate XY-44T/XY-5 core drills; manage core recovery; handle hole collapse, fluid loss, hole shrinkage and other issues; install and dismantle drill rigs; store and log core.
Requirements: 5+ years of solid mineral exploration drilling; experience with XY-44T/XY-5 models; under 48 years of age; physically fit with no acrophobia, hypertension or similar conditions, special operation certificate preferred; able to live in field camps.
14. Spindle-Type Core Drill Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training local diamond core driling personnel.
Key Duties: Prepare core dilling training sylabi, train in drill operation. core recovery and downhole troubleshooting; teach core logging support and safety: assess trainee skills; write training materials.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above (mechanical manufacturing, automation and related fields preferred); national Level 3+ vocational qualification; hold a teacher’s certificate; 2+ years of theoretical teaching or 5+ years of practical mentoring; strong communication and training organization skills.
15. Senior Shaft Construction Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for shaft construction organization design and on-site technical management, covering both raise borer and conventional shaft sinking methods
Key Duties: Organise and guide shaft construction; prepare construction organisation designs and safety measures: manage raise borer and conventional shaft sinking; resoive complex technical issues; ensure engineering quality and safety
Requirements: Diploma or above in shaft construction/mining engineering/civil engineering; 10+ years of mine shaft construction, expert in raise borer and conventional shaft sinking; familiar with shaft equipment, lining and safety standards; strong on-site organisation and coordination ablity.
III. Electric Haulage
16. Electric Mining Truck Motor Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of permanent-magnet drive motors and motor controllers on baftery-electric underground mining trucks.
Key Duties: Maintain permanent-magnet synchronous motors, MCU controllers, high-voltage circuits and water-cooling systems; use diagnostic software to read and clear motor/controller faults; develop motor maintenance plans; guide molor removal, installation and repair, ensure high-voltage safety
Requirements: Diploma or above in electrical/electromechanical/ new energy, hold a valid high-voltage electrician certificate, 3+ years of maintenance experience with permanent-magnet drive motors and MCU controllers on electric mining trucks or heavy electric equipment, familiat with high-voltage safety operating procedures
17. Electric Mining Truck Electrical Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems on battery-electric underground mining trucks.
Key Duties: Maintain low-voltage electrical systems, wiring hamesses, lighting, instruments, sensors and high-voltage distribution; diagnose and resolve electrical faults, develop maintenance plans, guide on-site repairs; ensure high-voltage safety compliance.
Requirements: Diploma or above in electrical/electromechanical/ new energy: hold a valid high-voltage electrician certificate, 3+ years of electrical maintenance experience with electric mining trucks or heavy electric equipment; able to read electrical schematics
18. Electric Mining Truck Mechanical Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for maintenance of mechanical systems on battery-electric underground mining trucks.
Key Duties: Maintain chassis, suspension, braking systems, hydraulic hoist and steering systems; diagnose mechanical faults; manage spare parts and maintenance plans; supervise overhauls, train local mechanics.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in vehicle engineering or mechanical engineering; 3+ years of mining truck body structure design or maintenance; familiar with heavy hydraulic systems; able to distinguish mechanical from electrical faults.
19. Electric Mining Truck Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training local maintenance personnel in electric mining truck systems and fault diagnosis
Key Duties: Prepare electric mining truck maintenance training programs, teach distinction between mechanical and electrical faults; train in diagnostic toots and software use; develop operating procedures; assess and certify local mechanics.
Requirements: Diploma or above in mechanical/vehicle/ electromechanical engineering: 3+ years of electric mining truck mechanical technical management; strong fault diagnosis ability: teaching and curriculum development skills.
IV. Underground Backfill Plant
20. Backfill Plant Mechanical Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for management and maintenance of mechanical equipment at the paste backfil plant.
Key Duties: Maintain mixers, screw conveyors, slurry pumps and pipelines; supervise mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance; manage wear parts and pipeline replacement; develop maintenance and overhaul plans; respond to equipment failures.
Requirements: Diploma or above in mechanical engineering: 3+ years of backfil plant mechanical management; familiar with equipment wear pattems, sealing and transmission systems; able to develop maintenance and spare parts plans; gold mine backfil or overseas experience preferred
21. Backfil Plant Electrical Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for management of electrical and automation control systems at the paste backill plant.
Key Duties: Program and maintain PLCs (Siemens/Mitsubishi), VFDs, SCADAHMI systems; design and traubleshoot automation control circuits: maintain low-voltage distribution and explosion-proof electrical equipment; read electrical drawings; implement electrical upgrades and safety measures, train local employees.
Requirements: Diploma or above in electrical/automation/ electromechanical engineering; 3+ years of electrical/automation experience at a backfil plant or in industrial automation; expert in PLC programming, VFD configuration and HMI development familiar with underground explosion-proof electrical standards
22. Backfill Plant Electrical Equipment Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for maintenance of electrical equipment and instruments at the paste backfill plant.
Key Duties: Maintain PLC systems, VFDs, levellow/weighing instruments, motors and solenoid valves; troubleshoot electrical and instrument faults; calibrate instruments, implement electrical upgrades and hazard remediation, manage spare parts; train local employees.
Requirements: Diploma or above in electrical/automation/ electromechanical engineering; 3+ years of electrical equipment maintenance at a backfill plant, familiar with surface low-voltage distribution and underground explosion-proof electrical standards; able to read electrical drawings
23. Backfill Plant Process Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for paste backfil process parameter optimization and backfill quality control.
Key Duties: Control slurry preparation, binder dosage, pipeline pressure and backfill timing; optimize mix designs based on laboratory results; prevent and address pipeline blockage, segregation and density fluctuation; develop process procedures and improvement plans; coordinate with underground production.
Requirements: Diploma or above in mining/civil/backfill engineering: 3+ years of full-tailings cemented backfill process management; familiar with Slurry preparation, mix transport and pipeline hydraulic transport, able to work mine shifts, gold mine backfill experience preferred.
24. Backfill Plant Laboratory Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for backfill mix-design testing and quality inspection.
Key Duties: Design and conduct mix-design tests; prepare and cure specimens; conduct compressive strength testing; measure siurry density and bleeding, optimize cement-tailings ratios; conduct on-site quality inspection, analyse data and issue reports.
Requirements: Diploma or above in civil/materials/mining engineering; 3+ years of backfil laboratory experience; proficient in mix-design testing specimen preparation and compressive strength testing; knowledge of full-tailings cemented paste backfill.
V. Mineral Processing and Cyanidation
25. Material Processing Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for full-process production technical management and process optimization at the concentrator.
Key Duties: Manage the full process of crushing, grinding, separation and dewatering; optimize process parameters and throughput; implement technical upgrades, organise production plans; resolve technical issues; manage production teams.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in mineral processing/ materials engineering: 5+ years of concentrator production technical management; famillar with the full crushing, grinding and separation process; technical management and team coordination ability, experience with large concentrators (5,000 /d+) preferred.
26. Mining Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for underground mine production planning and technical management.
Key Duties: Design mining methods; prepare development and production schedules; design long-hole blasting; resolve underground production technical issues; ensure mine safety regulation compliance; coordinate with geology, mineral processing and other departments.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in mining engineering; 5+ years of underground mine technical management, expert in mining method design, production planning and blast design, proficient in Dimine/Surpac and other mine software; strong on-site organisation and coordination.
27. Flotation Reagent Analyst (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for analysis and optimization testing of flotation and separation reagents.
Key Duties: Conduct reagent screening tests and dosage optimization; analyse reagent concentrations and addition regimes study reagent performance and mechanisms, operate laboratory flotation equipment and analytical balances; prepare test reports
Requirements: Diploma or above in mineral processing/applied
chemistry/analytical chemistry, 3+ years of mineral processing reagent analysis and testing; knowiedge of collector, frothier and modither chemistry: proficient in laboratory flotation and analytical equipment.
28. Grinding and Flotation Plant Supervisor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for day-to-day production organisation and management of the grinding and flotation plant.
Key Duties: Organise shit production across grinding, classification and flotation; monitor process indicators and separation performance; manage equipment and reagent consumption; coordinate personnel; handle production emergencies; control production costs.
Requirements: Diploma or above in mineral processing; 5+ years of grinding-flotation plant production management, familiar with the full grinding, classification and flotation process; leadership, cost control and interpersonal skills.
29. Mineral Processing Technical Instructor (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for training and teaching mineral processing theory and practice.
Key Duties: Prepare training courses in crushing and grinding, gravity separation, magnetic separation and fiotation; conduct classroom and onsite training; write training materials and examination questions; mentor Ugandan operators and shift supervisors.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in mineral processing, solid theoretical foundation and rich practical experience; teaching ability; large concentrator (5,000 d) experience preferred.
30. Mineral Processing Engineer (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for process optimization and troubleshooting at the 5,000 Ud concentrator.
Key Duties: Monitor and optimize grinding, gravity, magnetic and flotation circuits, design process improvement schemes; manage reagent consumption, handle process anomalies; analyse mineral processing data; ensure production targets.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in mineral processing intermediate professional title; familiar with gravity/magnetic/otatio processes, process design and upgrade expenence; lame concentrator (5,000 Ud) experience preferred.
31. Cyanidation Engineers (2 Positions)
Job Summary: Responsible for operation and optimization of the 350 tid carbon-in-leach (CIL) cyanidation circuit.
Key Duties: Control cyanide concentration, dissolved oxygen, leaching time and carbon adsorption; monitor tailings detoxification; handle leaching anomalies, ensure cyanide management compliance, train local operators.
Requirements: Diploma or above in metallurgy/chemical engineering, 5+ years of cyanide leaching experience, familiar with CIL/CIP processes: under 50 years of age; strong commitment to safety and environmental protection.
32. Mineral Processing Laboratory Technician (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for mineral processing tests to provide data support for process optimization.
Key Duties: Conduct flotation, magnetic separation and gravity separation tests; prepare samples; manage reagent regimes; record and analyse test data; support mineral processing engineers in test research; maintain laboratory equipment.
Requirements: Diploma or above in mineral processing/chemistry; 1-3 years of fiotation/magnetic/gravity separation testing; familiar with reagent regimes; able to operate laboratory crushing, grinding and flotation equipment: chemical safety awareness.
33. Assay Laboratory Chemist (1 Position)
Job Summary: Responsible for gold and multi-element analysis to provide data for production control and metal balance.
Key Duties: Conduct fire assay, atomic absorption (AAS), XRF and ICP analysis; prepare samples and standards, maintain analytical instruments, ensure analytical accuracy and quality control; issue assay reports.
Requirements: Diploma or above in chemistry/analytical chemistry; hold an assay analysis qualification; proficient in fire assay, AAS, XRF and ICP: multi-element analysis experience, rigorous and meticulous work style.
34. Financial Accountant
Job Summary: Financial accounting, tax filing, cost analysis, and tax planning for the Wagagai project and other Hongda Group projects in Uganda.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification. ERP certification is a plus.
Experience: 4+ years of experience in accounting and cost accounting within the mining or manufacturing sectors; familiarity with Ugandan tax laws and the regulatory requirements of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development regarding mining enterprises.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software systems such as YonyouCloud U9 or Tally; capability in data migration, report customization, and the preparation of FRS-compliant financial reports.
Other Requirements: Experience with reporting for lenders and project finance modeling
