ABOUT THE ROLE
ASIST and Young Engineers (YE) Uganda are seeking a results-driven
Business Development Manager to drive commercial growth, operational
efficiency, and strategic partnerships. This role is responsible for scaling
our STEM and AI education programmes into a sustainable, revenue-
generating enterprise while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and
team effectiveness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Business Development & Revenue Growth
• Develop and implement a commercial strategy to achieve financial
sustainability.
• Identify revenue-generating programmes versus impact-driven or
sponsor-dependent initiatives.
• Expand the network of partner schools and increase revenue per school.
• Design and launch new products, including curriculum licensing,
franchising of the Young Engineers Uganda model, and corporate
sponsorship packages.
• Build and manage strategic partnerships with schools, corporates,
government ministries, and international funders (e.g., UNDP).
• Explore opportunities for regional expansion beyond Uganda.
• Represent ASIST and YE credibly with AI companies, educational
institutions, and donors.
B. AI & STEM Education Strategy
• Maintain a working knowledge of generative AI, AI literacy, AI ethics,
robotics, coding, and EdTech business models.
• Ensure programme positioning reflects current trends in AI-in-education
and future skills development.
• Articulate the value of project-based STEM learning to funders and
partners.
C. Operations & People Management
• Oversee daily operations across all school programmes.
• Recruit, manage, and develop a high-performing team; design and
implement scalable organisational structures.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to refine instructional strategies and
programme offerings.
• Partner with the marketing team to enhance campaign consistency and
effectiveness.
• Identify and resolve operational inefficiencies.
• Drive continuous improvement in instructional quality and consistency
across partner schools.
REQUIREMENTS
• 5+ years in a senior business development, growth, or general
management role (EdTech, social enterprise, or education sectors
preferred).
• 3–5+ years of direct people management experience (mandatory).
• Proven track record in building revenue models, forging partnerships, or
launching new products — not just managing existing operations.
• Working knowledge of AI and EdTech trends (technical expertise not
required).
• Strong process orientation and operational discipline; able to fix broken
systems effectively.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable engaging
with funders, school leaders, and government officials.
• Based in Kampala or willing to relocate.
SUCCESS METRICS
Within 6 months:
• Operations run smoothly with minimal CEO involvement
• Team is stable and well-managed
• At least one new revenue stream or partnership pipeline identified
Within 12 months:
• Measurable growth in schools and revenue
• Launch of at least one new product (licensing, franchise, or corporate
partnership)
• A clear 2-year growth plan in place
