BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd. launched on 25 April 2019 and attained its status as a Tier II Credit Institution following a successful background as the leading Microfinance services provider in Uganda. The Bank operates 32 CI branches and 129 satellite offices covering over 84 districts in Uganda, targeting Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs.

BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd promotes financial inclusion by extending financial services to unserved and underserved populations, especially women and youth as well as people living in poverty in rural areas. To foster the Bank’s operations, we are seeking to fill the following vacancy.

About the Role:

This position will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring the bank’s Business Growth Strategy in line with organizational goals and objectives whilst ensuring that the strategy is successfully generating and contributing to the growth of BRAC Uganda Bank Limited (BUBL)’s Assets and Liabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Strategy

  • Develop and implement Business Growth Strategy to achieve the Bank’s strategic objectives in alignment with the Mission and Vision of the Bank.
  • Ensure that the strategy, business plans, budgets along with the policies / procedures are timely communicated to the respective staff and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation of periodic strategic plans that respond to the noted opportunities and challenges and manage the annual business planning process, ensuring that the business plans link into and support the longer-term plans.
  • Monitor the regional performance against the strategic plans, clearly identifying performance gaps and supporting management team members to put in place plans to address gaps.

B. Business Growth

  • Drive initiatives to maximize cross-selling opportunities for the benefit of the bank in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and review the loan portfolio on a periodic basis to evaluate the quality and performance.
  • Deliver on overall management of the regional operations ensuring growth of the loan book and portfolio quality management.
  • Drive the management of BUBL Business Growth from customer recruitment, loan processing or underwriting, reporting, recovery and all functions providing lending support at regional level, and formulation of loan policies, procedures and processes to ensure the overall good quality of BUBL’s lending portfolio.
  • Provide a range of financial services responsibly to people at the bottom of the pyramid, with a particular focus on women living in poverty in rural and hard to reach areas to create self-employment opportunities, build financial resilience, and harness women’s entrepreneurial spirit by empowering them economically.
  • Gather relevant market intelligence data competitor analysis to ensure timely interventions/strategies leading to growth of the bank’s assets and Liabilities.
  • Drive customer satisfaction and all other possible mechanisms to ensure high standards of service quality, conducive and ambient branch environment.
  • Spearhead the BUBL’s expansion in new strategic markets and implement go-to market strategies to target market segment that will result in quantifiable business support initiatives in alignment with the BUBL objectives


C. Saving Mobilization

  • Develop deposit mobilization strategy and plans to include: (Grow the deposit base, Grow customer numbers, Relationship management, Customer Experience, delivery channels and technological innovations.

D. Digital Transformation

  • Drive uptake and usage of the Bank’s digital channels.

E. Knowledge & Grants Management

  • Implementation of new projects and utilization of donor funds received by BUBL.

F. People Management

  • Drive a culture of high performance by monitoring staff performance, setting SMART performance objectives, carrying out regular performance appraisals.
  • Inculcate the BRAC culture by driving mission driven and BRAC values based behavior.
  • Drive staff development by coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Provide a conducive work environment by planning for staff leave and ensure all staff take leave within approved calendar periods.
  • Drive employee motivation and inspire people.
  • Enhance teamwork.

G. Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the BUBL’s goals on safeguarding implementation.
  • Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

H. Control Environment

  • Identify and assess the risks faced by the Branches within the region and maintain an effective system of controls to minimize exposure.
  • Manage and monitor compliance to procedures, bank policies and guidelines throughout the region.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or any related field.
  • Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Professional Certificate / Certification:

  • Any Business related certification.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years’ banking experience with more than 5 years at a management level
  • Experience in a microfinance financial institution is an added advantage
  • Proven track record of developing strategies, policies, systems and procedures for the delivery of customer service in a financial institution
  • Knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations and statutory requirements.
