Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Area Manager and the overall technical guidance of Productive
Learning (PL) Specialist, the Project Assistant will provide technical and operational support for the
implementation of the Productive Learning Flourishing Pathway under the UNLOCK program model.
The Program Assistant will support the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, documentation,
and reporting of Productive Learning areas of specialisation such as: Smart Start (SS), Teaching at the Right
Level (TaRL/UCatchUp), Let’s Learn to Read (LLR), and Yes Youth Can (YYC) interventions in the Area Program.
The role will ensure quality implementation and delivery of Productive Learning initiatives while
strengthening collaboration with Area Program, District Local Government structures, Core Primary
Teacher’s Colleges (CPTCs), development partners, and communities.
Key Result Area 1: Program Implementation and Technical Support
• Support implementation of Productive Learning activities in line with the UNLOCK programming model,
National Teacher Policy, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), The National Integrated Early
Childhood Development (NIECD) policy guidelines, Education Act 2008, and donor requirements.
• Coordinate the implementation of Productive Learning interventions across Area Programs.
• Support integration of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Physical and Mental Well Being
(PMWB), disability inclusion, safeguarding, gender equality, and youth-responsive approaches into Yes
Youth Can initiative.
• Effectively and efficiently provide technical support; mentorship and coaching to head teachers,
teachers, pre-primary teachers, VHTs, and Government counter parts in the implementation of
TaRL/UCatchUp, ECCE learning framework, and Let’s Learn to Read.
• Coordinate the training of TaRL/UCatchUp, Let’s Learn to Read in collaboration with CPTCs and CCTs for
selected primary schools.


• Conduct Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for in-service teachers and pre-primary teachers
as well as strengthening the capacity of SMCs and CMCs.
• Conduct routine/regular post-training support, monitoring and assessments of project performance, and
execute continuous remedial coaching and mentoring support to teachers, head teachers, parents / care
givers, SMCs and Government field staff.
• Establish safe and inclusive play spaces using low/no cost material development
• Investigate inclusion and gender gaps in education service provision in primary and pre-primary
education, design and implement initiatives aimed at increasing enrolment, improving retention and
performance of girls and boys in ECD centres and primary schools in the Area Program.
• Train frontline workers in Smart Start approach as the implementors to support caregivers on the best
child-rearing practices.
• Initiate and coordinate intra-district activities related to Productive Learning flourishing pathway;
including keeping abreast of Government policies and guidelines as well as other state actor’s
interventions in the Area Program and inform /advise the PAM, PC, and PL Specialist for action.
• Create linkages for caregivers to access quality health services from the health facilities.
• Coordinate logistics and follow-up for technical meetings, workshops, learning events, and field activities.
Key Result Area 2: Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Knowledge Management
• Support routine collection, verification, compilation, analysis, and reporting of Productive Learning data.
• Maintain high-quality databases and ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely submission of reports.
• Support data quality assessments (DQAs), supportive supervision, and routine monitoring visits.
• Support planning and implementation of assessments, surveys, baseline studies, operational research,
and learning activities
• Work closely with the MERL team to monitor program performance against indicators.
• Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports.
• Assist in analysis and visualization of program performance data to inform decision-making.
• Support documentation and dissemination of evidence, learning briefs, case studies, and technical
reports.
• Ensure ethical data collection, confidentiality, and compliance with organizational data management
standards.
Key Result Area 3: Partnership Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
• Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant partners, including district local government,
CCTs, Education-Centric CSOs, Teachers’ Associations, target schools, teachers and communities, and
other institutions in the area such as CSOs and CBOs.
• Participate in district Education cluster working groups, coordination meetings, and stakeholder
engagements at Area program level
• Maintain effective communication with Area Program teams to ensure coordinated implementation.
• Support and participate in the district level national education celebrations such as National Teachers
Day, International Day of Play, International Day of Education, etc.
• Support preparation of concept notes, proposals, technical presentations, and donor documentation.
• Assist in organizing partner meetings, review workshops, learning events, and coordination forums.
• Support mapping and engagement of relevant Productive Learning stakeholders and service providers.
Key Result Area 4: Administrative and Operational Support
• Support preparation of annual work plans, procurement plans, budgets, and activity schedules.
• Follow up procurement of technical supplies, training materials, and programming commodities.
• Prepare activity reports, travel documentation, and accountability documentation.
• Support compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, safeguarding, and risk management
procedures.

 

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor or PL Specialist.
Qualification: Education and Experience
• Diploma in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, Adult Education and other relevant
education related field. Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology,
Environmental Health, Community Health, or another relevant health-related field from a recognized
institution
• Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage
• A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in implementing ECCE, TaRL/UCatchUp, Let’s Learn to
Read and Youth and adolescent programming.
• Experience working with CPTCs, teachers, caregivers, pre-primary teachers, community engagement and
NGOs are an added advantage.
• Experience in No/Low-Cost play material development is an added advantage.
• Classroom experience preferably in teacher training and ECCE is preferred.
• Experience organizing training (CPDs), supportive supervision, and mentorship for teachers.
• Experience supporting monitoring, reporting, and data management.
• Experience working with district local governments and community structures is desirable

• Knowledge of ECCE and National Teacher Policy
• Experience in implementation, monitoring and evaluation of teacher development, Early Childhood Care
and Education, and youth programming.
• Ability to analyze and interpret education related data
• Good report writing and documentation skills.
• Ability to organize training, CPD, meetings, and community dialogues
• Strong coordination, Collaboration and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Micro-soft, Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management.
• Experience using DHIS2, KoboCollect/ODK, CommCare, or similar digital data collection platforms is an
added advantage.
• Knowledge of systems thinking programming is an added advantage
• Strong facilitation skills with an understanding of adult-learning theory
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements related to donor relations and international
development.
Language
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Knowledge of local languages spoken in the implementation areas is an added advantage.
