Duration: Approximately two months during the first phase

Background

Makerere University School of Public Health, in collaboration with Jhpiego, is implementing the Scaling the Optimal Use of Multiple ACTs to Prevent Antimalarial Drug Resistance (STOP-AMDR) Project. The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s National Malaria Elimination Division and other stakeholders to generate evidence for the introduction and scale-up of Multiple First-line Therapies in Uganda


Responsibilities

  • To lead and supervise quantitative and qualitative data-collection teams in Buikwe and Busia districts and ensure that field activities are conducted in accordance with the study protocol.
  • Attend study meetings and support the training of research assistants and enumerators, including pretesting activities.
  • Supervise field data collection in accordance with the study protocol and in coordination with the Project Coordinator
  • Oversee project materials and field logistics.
  • Lead community entry and liaise with district and local leaders.
  • Ensure that household listing and mapping are completed correctly before random sampling.
  • Support the selection of facilities and participants for provider surveys.
  • Monitor data quality, conduct spot checks and ensure adherence to enumeration-area boundaries and study protocols.
  • Review completed study forms and compile regular and end-of-assignment field reports.
  • Help resolve challenges encountered by field teams, including troubleshooting data-collection tools.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator or investigators.

Qualifications and Desirable Qualities

  • A minimum of a master’s degree.
  • Experience leading field teams conducting large and complex surveys at national or regional level.
  • Experience collecting quantitative data using mobile-assisted data-collection systems.
  • Experience collecting qualitative data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow study procedures and guidelines reliably.
  • Ability and willingness to reside in the assigned study district throughout the data-collection period.
  • Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines and operate with minimal supervision.
  • A valid certificate in Human Subjects Protection and/or Good Clinical Practice
