Job Purpose

To provide safe, reliable, efficient, and timely transport services to commission staff, guests, and cargo, while ensuring roadworthiness, security, and proper utilization of assigned vehicles in compliance with commission policies, procedures, traffic laws, and applicable legislation.

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities

  1. Conduct daily and pre-trip vehicle inspections to confirm roadworthiness, cleanliness and readiness and promptly report any faults or safety concerns to the Technician Fleet Management.
  2. Safely transport Commission staff, guests and cargo to authorized destinations in accordance with approved schedules, traffic laws, Commission policies and procedures, and defensive-driving requirements.
  3. Maintain proper custody and security of the assigned vehicle, including vehicle keys, fuel cards, accessories, passengers and cargo, and ensure the vehicle is used only for authorised official purposes.
  4. Promptly report vehicle faults, defects, accidents, incidents, loss or damage and cooperate with the Technician Fleet Management in facilitating scheduled servicing, inspection and maintenance.
  5. Maintain accurate vehicle records and accountabilities, including logbooks, trip/movement records, fuel usage and vehicle-condition reports and submit them within stipulated timelines.
  6. Provide professional and courteous service to passengers, including appropriate assistance with luggage or cargo, while maintaining confidentiality and discretion regarding information obtained during assignments.
  7. Maintain readiness and availability for authorised assignments, including long-distance and upcountry travel and assignments outside normal working hours, weekends and public holidays.
  8. Undertake other transport and fleet-related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the supervisor.


Education and Professional Experience

  • Minimum of a UACE-level certificate.
  • Valid driving license for the appropriate class(es) of vehicles.
  • A diploma in motor vehicle mechanics is an added advantage; and Certificate in defensive driving

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years' professional driving experience, preferably in a corporate, government, regulatory, diplomatic or other institutional environment, with demonstrable experience in handling official vehicles and transporting senior officials, staff and guests

Skills and Knowledge

Technical 

  • Good driving and defensive driving skills.
  • Basic vehicle inspection and maintenance knowledge.
  • Knowledge of road safety and traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate vehicle, trip, and fuel records.
