Position Summary
The Truck Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods while ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, company policies, and customer service standards. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain company trucks and other assigned vehicles efficiently and responsibly.
- Complete journey plans accurately before every trip.
- Ensure all trip details are properly documented.
- Take full responsibility for the assigned vehicle and the goods being transported.
- Report for duty on time and perform assigned duties diligently.
- Deliver goods safely, on time, and in excellent condition.
- Maintain the highest standards of customer service.
- Comply with all company health, safety, and road traffic regulations.
- Report accidents, incidents, and emergencies promptly to supervisors.
- Maintain the cleanliness and roadworthiness of the assigned vehicle.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Record and report all vehicle defects in the defect logbook.
- Verify that all goods correspond with delivery invoices before loading.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured before departure.
- Drive responsibly while observing all traffic laws and speed limits.
- Obtain signed and stamped Proof of Delivery (POD) documents and return them to the office.
- Maintain accurate trip, fuel, and delivery records.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE/O-Level).
- A pass in English is an added advantage.
Driving Permit
Applicants must possess a valid Ugandan National Driving Permit with heavy vehicle classes, preferably:
- Class C (Medium Goods Vehicles)
- Class CE (Heavy Goods Vehicles/Articulated Trucks)
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of proven experience driving heavy commercial trucks or long-haul vehicles.
- Experience in transport and logistics operations is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent driving and vehicle handling skills.
- Good knowledge of Uganda’s road network and traffic regulations.
- Defensive driving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet delivery deadlines.
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
- High level of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
- Customer-focused with excellent service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Additional Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- A valid Defensive Driving Certificate (added advantage).
- A valid Medical Fitness Certificate.
- A clean driving record with no major traffic offences.
- A valid National Identification Card.
- Police Clearance Certificate (especially for cross-border assignments).
- Basic smartphone literacy for GPS navigation and communication.
