Job Title: Quality Assurance Officer

Department: Security, Risk and Compliance

Location: Kampala

Reporting to: Quality Assurance Team Lead

Key Relationships: Processing, Dispatch, Hygiene and H&S teams, Commercial and Sales Team

Job Grade: M1

Role Summary and Purpose: The Quality Assurance Officer will ensure that Quality and Food Safety Standards are upheld as per Internal and National Standards, MAAIF and Yalelo Standards

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Enforce compliance to food safety and Quality standards such as HACCP, GMP, SSOP, ISO 22000 and BAP, Local regulatory guidelines (MAAIF, EU export requirements)
  2. Ensuring the fish meets specifications, safety requirements and Export Quality by inspecting incoming fish, verifying traceability and monitoring processing steps.
  3. Ensuring Microbial and Chemical Safety by conducting and coordinating microbiological sampling.
  4. Ensures high hygiene and housekeeping standards across all outlets by verify implementation of SSOPs.
  5. Enforcing proper Documentation and Record Keeping such as HACCP logs, CCP monitoring sheets, Temperature Records, Non-conformance reports.
  6. Ensuring Staff training and awareness by training of all staff on hygiene, GMP and food safety.
  7. Conducting monthly food safety internal audits.


Key Qualifications and Work Experience required for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science and technology and Fisheries, Aquaculture.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in food processing facility.

Skills and Ability needed for the Role:

  • Competent in MS Office and Computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and able to work well with cross functional teams.
  • Problem solving and Analytical Thinking

Working hours:

  • 48hrs per week
