Job Details:
Job Summary: The position holder will be responsible providing laboratory support for immunology and HIV- 1 sequencing projects, including sample handling, immunological assays, molecular biology, Oxford Nanopore sequencing, and basic bioinformatics, in compliance with GCLP standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To Receive, process, store, and ship samples according to SOPs and IATA standards;
- Perform laboratory experiments, maintain equipment, and ensure GCLP compliance;
- Maintain inventory, clean laboratory spaces, and ensure health and safety procedures;
- Document experiments, manage data, and support analysis and reporting;
- Contribute to SOP development and quality assurance logs;
- Mentor interns/students and coordinate with project teams;
- Conduct immunological assays: Flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex, Neutralization, ADCC;
- Support tissue culture, animal tissue processing, and related experimental workflows;
- Conduct safety inductions and maintain first aid and MSDS updates;
- Perform nucleic acid extraction, Single Genome Amplification (SGA), and ONT sequencing.
- Implement basic bioinformatics pipelines and reconstruct HIV-1 genomes; and,
- Assist in developing and optimizing molecular and sequencing protocols;
- Line Management;
- Reporting directly to the Lead Investigator overseeing the project.
- Coordinating with other team members and departments to ensure seamless integration of laboratory activities within the broader research framework.
- Providing technical supervision and mentorship to interns, and students working on the project.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory technology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field;
- Allied Health Professionals License is desirable;
- Should possess 1 year laboratory experience in immunology or molecular biology;
- Hands-on experience with immuno-assays, tissue culture, nucleic acid extraction, SGA, or ONT sequencing;
- Experience of bioinformatics analysis;
- Should possess knowledge of GCP/GCLP;
- Knowledge of safety regulations;
- Independent assay development & troubleshooting of new procedures;
- Should possess knowledge of laboratory molecular diagnostic and genomics skills;
- Ability to work independently with high attention to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Good organizational skills; and,
- Time management and Computer literacy.
