KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operational Leadership &
Coordination: Serve as the primary operational liaison between the Head of Medical Services and clinical departments - Performance Monitoring & Quality
Assurance; Monitor key clinical performance indicators (KPIs) across all supervised units, including patient wait times, clinical outcomes, and service utilization - Clinical Allied Services Oversight: Provide direct supervision and support to heads of Nutrition, Biomedical Engineering, Physiotherapy, and Off-site Nursing Care.
- Staff Management & Development: Support Medical Officers and allied clinical leads in performance management, including goal setting, leave, scheduling, feedback, and professional development
- Resource & Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing clinical operational budgets in alignment with hospital financial goals
- Patient Experience & Safety: Champion patient safety initiatives and ensure adherence to infection prevention and control protocols
- Reporting & Communication: Prepare and present regular operational reports to the Head of Medical Services and hospital leadership.
Competencies and Skills:
- Clinical Acumen: Strong understanding of clinical processes, medical terminology, and healthcare operations.
- Leadership & Influence: Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, drive change, and foster collaboration in a clinical setting.
- Analytical Thinking: Proficiency in data analysis, performance metrics, and operational problem-solving.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clinical, administrative, and patient interactions.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Uganda healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and clinical best practices.
- Technology Proficiency: Competence in hospital information systems, electronic medical records, and
Microsoft Office - Emotional Intelligence: Ability to navigate high-stress clinical environments with empathy and professionalism
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience, with at least 3 years in a clinical management or supervisory role in a busy and dynamic hospital environment.
- Proven experience in overseeing multidisciplinary clinical teams and allied health or clinical support services.
- Demonstrated success in improving clinical processes, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery Degree (MBChB) is a must.
- Minimum formal postgraduate training in leadership, Management or Administration (Healthcare or Hospital Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration/ Management or closely related course) is a must.
- A Masters is an added advantage
