Malaria Reference Centres (MRCs) in the following districts: Mayuge, Kole, Apac, Omoro, Kaabong, Moroto, Kiryandongo, Amolatar, Jinja, Kitgum, Kwania, and Otuke. Candidates are encouraged to indicate their district of preference in the application letter

Duties Brief

Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Provide technical support to school staff in regard to malaria surveillance and school attendance in schools 
2.    Supervision and technical support for the administration of IPT study drugs in children enrolled in schools in the intervention arms of the IPT in schoolchildren study.
3.    Work as liaison contact between IDRC and the District health teams, District education teams, and School administrations.
4.    Obtain parental consent for administration of IPT drugs in schoolchildren enrolled in the intervention schools. 
5.    Lead in networking and liaising with the districts, schools, and other partners in the area.
6.    Oversee the conduct of the school surveys
7.     Build and maintain effective relationships with the administration and staff of the schools
8.    Work with the school leadership to ensure that data use meetings are regularly held at the schools. 
9.    Provide support to the Regional surveillance officers
10.    Support the Field Coordinator in ensuring that malaria study drug stock monitoring charts are regularly updated.
11.    Ensure the use of school registers at the schools and the completion of data entry in a timely manner.
12.    Ensure uninterrupted supply of the school registers (School attendance, drug stock etc) and other essential supplies at the schools
13.    Support malaria surveillance program activities at all malaria reference centers. 
14.    Submit weekly updates and quarterly achievements to the supervisor.


Key Result Areas/Outputs 
1.    Completed parental consent for all children participating in study activities
2.    Timely, complete, and accurate administration of study drugs to schoolchildren in the intervention arm
3.    Timely data entry and sharing
4.    Completed school surveys 
5.    School support supervision is undertaken for all schools every quarter

Qualification Required

Job qualifications and other desirables
1.    Diploma/degree in Medical-related field, e.g, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Community Health 
2.    A postgraduate degree in Public Health or a related field is an added advantage
3.    Experience working with Schools, government establishments, and other NGOs focusing on malaria-related work
4.    Experience riding a motorcycle with a valid riding permit
5.    At least 2 years’ working experience in the public health sector
6.    Ability to settle upcountry for field work
7.    Evidence of good writing, communication, and presentation skills.
8.    Excellent interpersonal skills.
9.    Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
10.    Ability to work under stringent deadlines and to work independently 
11.    Must have valid GCP and HSP certificates
